2015 S-Works Allez - the only run of S-Works alloy bikes Specialized ran in the last decade. After launching the 'Smartweld' technology Specialized wanted to show off how good aluminum bikes could be (I remember this marketing well as I worked at a Specialized shop at the time). The frame does live up to the hype - it's competitively light, and has a surprisingly unique ride quality, getting some of that nice metal road feel you get from stiff alloy bikes, but still being more compliant than you'd expect.

All around this is the perfect value build that can stand the test of time even 10 years on – Ultegra 6800 11spd Di2 (upgraded OSPW to allow for larger cassette and lower friction), Zipp SL seatpost and stem with an S-Works Aerofly bar, a Quarq power meter, all rolling on stalwart Mavic Ksyrium Elite wheels with some Vittoria Corsa Control tires.

Plus, you get a bike meticulously cared for by a perfectionist home-mechanic with all the perks (fancy light TPU tubes, zero creaks, hot-melt waxed chain, etc).

I'm 5'10", on the tall end for a 54cm but that's how I like it. Plenty of seatpost to go up or down depending on your needs, and shorter stems in my closet too if you need.

Let me know if you need routes too – I'll spin you up some custom routes depending on your preferred adventure, distance, terrain, etc.
